In a significant stride for global marine conservation during May 2025, Cetus Maritime officially announced its membership in the League Of Whale Guardians™. Cetus Maritime owns and operates a modern handysize fleet of over 40 vessels that will now be using Whale Guardians™ approved whale protection measures. This partnership highlights Cetus's deep commitment to environmental stewardship and sets a powerful precedent for the maritime sector to safeguard the world's great whales from extinction.
Cetus Maritime transports a wide range of dry bulk commodities on its diverse fleet, including grains, agricultural products, bauxite, alumina, aggregates, forest products, concentrates, fertilizers, ores, and many more. With a focus on optimising transit sustainability, their vessels can carry multiple parcels of different cargoes on one voyage, which enables them to offer lower freight rates and maximize efficiency.
"This was a personal project for the Company as the name “Cetus” was itself inspired by the constellation sometimes referred to as “the whale”. We are proud to have joined The League of Whale Guardians™, further committing our efforts to protect these majestic creatures in their ocean home."
Cetus Maritime's integration into the League means their fleet will now adhere to established Whale Guardians™ official protocols, further reinforcing their dedication to saving whale lives. This move is a testament to the growing recognition within the maritime industry that environmental responsibility is not just a regulatory obligation but a moral imperative.
"The addition of Cetus Maritime to our league of dedicated industry partners is a tremendous boost for whale conservation," commented Michael Fishbach, Whale Guardians™ Co-Founder & Director. "Their commitment sends a clear message across the shipping world: protecting whales is paramount. We are thrilled to welcome them and look forward to the collective impact we can achieve in safeguarding these majestic creatures from unintended vessel strikes."
This exciting development comes at a crucial time for many whale species, some of which are struggling to recover from historical whaling practices and now face the added pressure of increased vessel traffic. The proactive steps taken by companies like Cetus Maritime, in partnership with the League Of Whale Guardians™, are essential for fostering a healthier, more sustainable future for our oceans and the iconic animals that inhabit them.
Looking Ahead: A Call to Action for the Maritime Industry
Cetus Maritime’s decision to join Whale Guardians™ is a powerful example of how the industry can play a crucial role in conservation efforts. As more companies take steps to protect whales from ship strikes, it is definite that the overall health of whale populations will improve.
We urge other companies in the maritime and shipping industries to follow Cetus’s lead in committing to the protection of whales and marine biodiversity. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the fight for the survival of these magnificent creatures and the overall health of our oceans.
